What they look like & how they work

Post-Purchase offers are a powerful way to offer customers your best deal on upsells they did not take advantage of before checkout!

BASIC STRATEGY

Here's how it often fits into an effective upselling strategy on your store:

  1. Pre-Purchase Product Page Upsell Offers -> offer similar products to the product they are viewing

  2. Pre-Purchase In-Cart Cross-Sell Offers -> offer the best companion products to the product a customer now has in their cart

  3. POST-PURCHASE Cross-Sell Offers -> offer the same product you offered in cart, but with a bigger discount!

HOW IT FUNCTIONS

How post-purchase works, step by step:

A post-purchase offer is displayed to a customer just after they complete checkout on your store.

Let's say you're selling women's clothing on your Shopify store, and a customer buys a gorgeous pair of women's slacks/pants. They see it in their cart, they go to checkout, enter all their shipping and payment details, and click purchase... with a post-purchase offer, the next page they see (before the thank-you page) is a final offer on a good upsell product!

In this case, it makes sense to offer some matching shoes, or a matching Silk Summer Top, to go with those fashionable pants they just purchased from your store! And perhaps add your best discount (let's say, 10% in this example).

With one click, they can add this product to their order. Simple, easy, and effective!

It looks like this:

Notice that in the image above:

• Shipping is accurately calculated (many other upselling apps can't do this!)

• Taxes are accurately calculated (other apps often can't do this either!)

(Our team is pretty smart and figured out some amazing workarounds that all happen automatically on the back end to make this possible. Go team In Cart Upsell!)

What you CANNOT do:

• Can't modify the Header text. Sadly, Shopify restricts apps like ours on the app store to allow merchants to type in their own offer text on post-purchase. They protect post-purchase fiercely and control it heavily. (However if you need a translated text, simply message our support at bottom right - we'll add it in for you asap!)

• Can't offer multiple products. One product only here as a final offer to your shopper, so choose wisely.

Here's what you CAN modify:

• Which product to offer (of course)

• Under what conditions you want this offer to display - lot's of customization available here!

• The discount amount - either a flat amount or a percentage discount (enter it when creating your post-purchase offer)

• Whether you want a quantity selector to be there or not on each offer you create.

It's simple, straightforward, and highly effective!

CREATE YOUR FIRST POST-PURCHASE OFFER IN 5 MINUTES

  1. Open your In Cart Upsell app and click "Create Offer"

  2. Select the "Post-Purchase" offer type (woohoo)

  3. Follow the instructions on the next page (don't forget to select "In Cart Upsell" as your post-purchase choice in your theme editor, and click save - that's the first step on this page)

  4. Create and then preview your offer, step by step (how's it look?? :)

  5. Set your offer to PUBLISHED (important if you want your customers to see it!)

THE SIMPLE STATS

On average, post-purchase upsells (in this case, cross-sells) see a 4% conversion rate.

However, with the right strategy, we've seen stores achieve a close to 10% conversion rate on their post-purchase upsells!
