Awesome! Now that we know what Autopilot is and what it does, we can proceed with how to get it set up. Watch the video or follow the steps below to make it a success:
Step 1
Click the "Create Offer" button to begin the process. This will direct you to an empty offer template. Select the “Launch Autopilot” button.
Step 2
After clicking the button, it will take a few seconds to setup and then you can move on to configuring the settings. Click the “Configure Autopilot Settings” button.
Step 3
On the Offer Product section, select how many products you would like Autopilot to recommend to your shoppers by clicking the drop-down arrow (the number ranges from 1 to 5).
Next, select the offer layout. The Autopilot offer comes with two layouts, stack and carousel. tack is best suited for offers with no more than two recommended products. While carousel is best suited for offers that have 3 to 5 product recommendations.
Scroll down to the “Text” section; in this step, you have the option to personalize your offer to suit your needs. You can remove and add your own text within the offer text field if you wish. Additionally, you have the option to modify the Add to Cart button text.
You can scroll down to the” Display Options” section for further customizability. The offer title is automatically linked to the product page. You can leave it as it is, or you can remove it by checking the option to” Remove link to product page”
Step 4
Placement Tab
Navigate to the Placement tab (Click the Continue to Placement button).
Select where the offer should appear on your store by using the drop-down option selector. There are three possible locations - product page, cart page, and Ajax cart (slider, pop-up, or drop-down cart). Note that the Ajax cart must already exist on your store prior to enabling this option, since In Cart Upsell does not generate the Ajax cart; it simply integrates the offer widget into an existing cart. Ensure you carefully review all the options available before you make your selection.
In this tutorial we will be using the product page and the cart page.
Further down you will select where on the store the offer should be positioned. You will make this selection under the section with the heading “Where on this page would you like the offer to appear?”. The option displayed under this section depends on the placement that you selected. Remember in the previous step we selected the product and cart page option, so the positions displayed are shown for the product page and the cart page. Let’s set the product page up first.
There are three ways to place your offer on your store. This all depends upon the theme your store uses. Options 1 and 2 are only available for themes that are supported by the default or template settings.
Option 1
Use default settings -This supports the Dawn Theme
Option 2
Use Templates – This currently supports 12 Shopify Themes. Once your theme is among the supported themes in our library this option will be available to you.
Option 3
Advanced – This requires HTML and CSS knowledge and is used for stores that use an unsupported theme.
If you see the message in the screenshot below on the Placement Tab; that means your theme is not supported by the default placement settings nor the placement templates. Rest assured the app can be configured manually using the Advanced Tab to work with your theme. Please contact support for a manual setup or you can read the “Displaying widgets (offers) on unsupported themes” article for a guide. If this message does not display on your dashboard, then go ahead and choose your placement.

We are using the Dawn theme for this tutorial. It is a supported theme so we will use the template options to place the offer on the store.
Select the option to “Use Template for Product Page”. Three template options will appear, choose anyone that suits your needs.
Move on to the cart page and select the option to “Use Templates for Cart Page” Three template options will appear, choose anyone that suits your needs.
Step 5
Appearance Tab
Navigate to the Appearance tab to customize the offer to match the theme of your website. Here, you will be able to use the sections available to adjust the look and feel of your widget and make it appear as desired. Several options are available, allowing you to customize the widget to complement your website seamlessly. Please watch the video tutorial or read the article on how to customize your offers.
Advanced Tab
The Advanced tab requires HTML and CSS knowledge to be used effectively. This section is used to configure the app for the non-supported themes. Here, you can modify the Dom Selectors to decide where the offer appears on your store. Additionally, you can add custom CSS to customize the offer widget further.
If you require help in this area, please don't hesitate to reach out to our customer support team. We are here to assist.
Step 6
Once the setup has been completed, you will have the option to either save it as a draft or publish the offer. Saving it as a draft will allow you to keep it unpublished, whereas doing the latter will prompt the offer to go live immediately. Click either the Save Draft or Publish button available at the top and also at the bottom of the page.
Remember to contact support if you have any questions or need assistance.
